Hi Everyone,
I have attached the first chapter as a sample of the work needed. If you are interested in the project edit the chapter in Word and track your changes and make any comments about the story and send me your editing sample (tey0089 @ msn.com). The title is Shackleton’s Folly; it is the definition of adventure in space.
A treasure map to the Eleven Wonders of the Universe
A beautiful slave girl
An adventure 11,000 years in the making
When the Empire of the First Ones fell, they left behind wonders so advanced it made all the spacefaring races look like primitives. Any warring race able to find these advanced technologies exploit it would become galactic rulers. Their lost locations wiped clean from the pages of history and long since forgotten.
Until now
Alec Shackleton and his partner Dancer, a cobalt blue android centaur, penetrate a hot war zone, bust through a planetary defense system, and brake into a museum. In celebration of their discovery they travel to their favorite watering hole. Alec is well known for his willingness to pay for information on the lost Eleven Wonders of the Universe. During negotiations for a treasure map, Alec's attention is captured by the beautiful slave girl he did not know. He knew most of the human community for there were less than 20,000 and she was not one of them. The extinction level event of 2267 wipes all life from the surface of the earth. Alec left with the treasure map in hand and the slave girl at his side.
This is the first book of a planned trilogy. Book two of the Shackleton’s adventures is in the planning stages. Remember I am looking for your style of editing . The reason I use the first chapter is so that you can see what you are getting into. At the moment this is running at 115k in words but as edits are done I am sure this will ebb and flow. The structure was developed around Joseph Cambell’s work on the hero’s journey and subsequently Christopher Vogler’s The Writers Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers.
Best,
Todd Yunker, Ed. M.
